In 2013 Kevin Hilbrenner, a member at the Carrollton Country Club, had a vision to create a competitive golf league among the golf courses in rural Missouri. The four original members were Carrollton Country Club, Marshall’s Stone Hedge, Shirkey Golf Club in Richmond, and The Excelsior Springs Golf Club.
The Country Cup continues to create competition and comradery between rural golf courses in Missouri. From Kevin’s vision the Missouri Country Cup Golf League came about. Regrettably, Kevin passed away and was not able to see his dream of the Country Cup as it is today.
His friend, Brock Dover, continued with the administration of the competition until 2019.
In 2019 Austin Hardison of the Excelsior Springs Golf Club acquired oversite of the competition. By 2024, membership grew to 8 Golf Clubs for 2024.
For the 2025 season, Tom Hayob, captain of the Marshall team has taken over the administrative duties. The membership for the 2025 season has grown to 9 members.
